Student Education

The MSU Department of Surgery, in line with its development by CHM, has placed the education of medical students, nuse practitions and physican assistants as a high priority. We currently have rotating students from the College of Human Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine, Grand Valley State Univeristy, Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University.

While students are on service, they are encouraged to get involved with hospital, clinic, and operating room experiences. They are encouraged to participate while on call and get exposure to patients with routine, emergent and traumatic injuries. Students are encouraged to attend Grand Rounds and M&M conferences, in addition to their other scheduled educational activities.

In addition to participating in 3rd year clerkship rotations, we also offer focused experiences for 4th year electives in Trauma and Critical Care (Lansing only), General Surgery, and Vascular (Flint only) experiences. These rotations are open for local or visiting students.
