Welcome to the MSU Department of Surgery Website

Congratulations to our residents, students and faculty who presented at the 5th Annual Academic Surgical Congress February 3-5 in San Antonio, Texas.

Our residency program has received notifcation that our program will be reveiwed by the RRC on March 10, 2010. We look forward to the accreditation visit.

We have recently completed 8 interview dates with potential resident applicants for the 2010-2011 academic year. Students from across the country particpated and the caliber of candidates was outstanding.

Congratulations to several members of our Department for their recent successes:

  • Dr. Shean Satgunam successfully completed an ATLS Course for Doctors
  • Dr. Chet Morrison recently passed his Critical Care Recertification Examination.
  • Dr. Keith Apelgren and Dr. John Kepros successfully passed the ABS Recertification Examination.

Congratulations to Dr. Benjamin Mosher, MD. who recently passed the Surgical Critical Care Board examination. Dr. Mosher will continue to serve the Department of Surgery and Sparrow Hospital's Level I Trauma Center as our third board certified critical care surgeon. Dr. Mosher is pictured above wearing the MSU colors.

New Research Activity!

  • Several members of the Department of Surgery have had abstracts accepted at the 5th Annual Academic Surgical Congress, in San Antonio.

  • A manuscript by Dr. Opreanu and Dr. Kepros entitled "Anatomic Variations of the First Extensor Compartment and Abductor Pollicis Longus Tendon in Trapeziometacarpal Arthritis" has been accepted to Hand
